CAMP DESCRIPTIONS
Kichwa Tembo is in the west of the Masai Mara, located high on a ridge on the edge of riverine forest. The luxury tents are stylish and spacious with twin beds and en suite bathroom with hot shower, toilet and electrical hurricane lamp. Each tent has its own shaded verandah with canvas camp chairs and a stunning view. Game viewing from Kichwa is excellent - with large herds of buffalo and elephant often being seen. A swimming pool is available to cool off in, with some of the best views in Africa. The camp uses specially designed Land Cruisers with open roofs for optimum game viewing. Guides are knowledgeable on the flora, fauna, game, bird life as well as the customs of the Masai people. Morning and afternoon game drives are included in the package price.
Siana Intrepids Camp is situated in the south eastern corner of the Masai Mara, outside the national park. This shady, tranquil, 72 bedded tented camp recaptures the spirits of Kenya's early pioneers. It has a swimming pool fringed by acacia trees, an oasis for cooling down between game drives on hot days in the bush. Enormous trees provide shade for all the tents in this exclusive camp - each with an en-suite bathroom, lighting, mosquito netting and traditional Kenyan furnishings. Delicious pan-African cuisine is served in the dining area and bush dinners are held in a clearing under the 'big sky' of the Masai Mara. Two daytime game drives per day are included in the package price. Bush walks, night drives and hot air ballooning are also available at an extra cost.
Mara Intrepids Camp straddles the migration 'corridor' at the confluence of the Masai Mara's main game-viewing areas, giving guests an unbeatable view of the world's most famous wildlife spectacle. The camp comprises 30 tents divided into four very private areas, each with its own elegant 'mess tent' and secluded riverside viewpoints. The raised guest tents present a picture of old world elegance, with giant four-poster beds and handsome mahogany furniture offset by modern en suite bathrooms and luxurious amenities. Internationally trained chefs prepare delectable al fresco dishes to order. -5-
Activities include walking safaris outside the reserve, day and night game drives, or a visit to the local neighbours in their manyattas. Three game drives daily are included in the package price. Night game drives and visits to a Masai village attract an additional cost. Dawn balloon safaris can also be arranged.Governors Camp, the first tented camp to be established in the Masai Mara and possibly the best known, is situated in the west of reserve. The 38 tents, keeping the authentic, traditional safari atmosphere, are set amongst the trees along the Mara River and have unrivalled views over the plains. All have en-suite bathrooms with shower and basin, running cold and hot water as well as a flush toilet. Gas and paraffin lamps are used for lighting. Nearby, there is a cleared area overlooking the river where breakfast and lunch buffets are served when the weather is fine. Candlelit dinners are in the dining tent. There are various activities on offer: game drives in open landrovers, game walks or balloon flights over the wide plains. Day excursions to Lake Victoria are also on offer. However, we recommend to book this excursion well in advance and combine the Lake Victoria trip with an overnight stay. Three game drives daily are included in the package price. Other activities (walking, ballooning, Lake Victoria excursion, a visit to a Masai village) are extra.
